I recently found a live XTC bootleg LP while music shopping in Ithaca. I bought it even though my record player has been hidden away in the basement for five years. I dug it out when I got home and bought the pre-amp and cable I needed to get it working again. XTC sounded great. So did the orange vinyl version of Ryan Adams' Easy Tiger. I've bought a few other records since I've been back in Cincinnati. I'm trying to limit my vinyl purchases to things I illegally downloaded (Band of Horses, !!!, Iron & Wine) and things that are out-of-print or unavailable on CD (Miracle Legion, Annie). I'm especially excited about the Miracle Legion records. Mark Mulcahy is one of my favorite singers, but I've never even heard most of his 80s records with the Miracle Legion.
I just hope I don't become one of those hipster-dorks who goes around talking about how great vinyl sounds.
